On November 8, 2019, LIFE Center Stage joined hands with The Folk Project in an event to raise awareness about the opioid crisis. This event helped launch The Legacy Song Project, a new program designed to offer those affected by the crisis an opportunity to express their experiences in an effort to find meaning and hope. Whether it be the loss of a loved one or dealing with the struggles of a family member in active use or recovery, stories and experiences become powerful songs that inspire and make an impact personally, in the community and in the world.
We are so grateful to the Folk Project and to Lorraine Ferro, Michael Cavallo, Loren O’Donnell, and Molly Cagno who all took the stage last November and shared themselves by performing songs that represented the many thoughts and feelings they have experienced surrounding this epidemic. Folk Project’s Open Stage members and the wider community also took the stage to share their experience, strength, and hope. It was a night of great inspiration.
Annie Donohue and Todd Dennison were chosen to participate in our first Legacy Song. Working with accomplished, professional singer-songwriters Lorraine Ferro, together they co-created the song “Outside of Heaven” which we are honored to premier and share with you this evening.
We believe and have experienced that when we are seen, accepted and encouraged to express ourselves in a safe, supportive and stigma-free environment, we liberate a passion for living that leads to a fuller and richer life.
“Todd and I met Lorraine and Vicky at their Legacy Song Fundraiser last year. We were so moved by their passion and the performances of the artists that we asked if we could participate in the Legacy Project in some way. When Vicky informed us that we’d been chosen to co-write the Legacy song with Lorraine, we were beyond excited. Vicky and Lorraine demonstrate a level of professionalism and compassion for this cause, and we were so blessed to be a part of it.
